The road that led me to starting up Let Them Eat Cake in 2004 goes back to my upbringing in the 1960's and things that have influenced my life up to now.

Watching my creative mum cooking up fantastic dinner parties for her friends in the 70's, our Jubilee street party in London, complete with iced gingerbread queen biscuits on every plate, a huge crown cake and tables lining the street dressed in red, white and blue.

My mum always pushed the boat out to give us memorable birthday parties at home. One of my favourite cakes was the woman in a shoe, a big chocolate boot, with a roof made of ryvita.

Picnics on Bournemouth beach, where we spent our school holidays, making rock cakes in the garden with my granny who didn't want the mess inside the house.

My work experience has always been in retail or catering - an eclectic mix of a Saturday jobs in a wholefood shop, visual merchandising for Habitat, managing Food for Friends Patisserie

in Brighton and running a pop-up cafe at the Artist Residence Hotel, along with catering for weddings and parties.

I have always loved cooking, particularly baking. I love that satisfaction of producing cakes, scones and biscuits, catering for a crowd, making afternoon tea, cooking for friends, making food for Christmas presents.

I haven't been to catering college, I'm not a trained chef. I have days when my cakes sink, burn and just go plain wrong. But I have a real passion and enthusiasm for what I do. Running Let Them Eat Cake has been a hugely enjoyable learning curve with lots of fun along the way.

I have made cakes for all kinds of events and all kinds of people and have really enjoyed being a part of their celebrations.

My new venture into cake decorating workshops has been brewing for a couple of years and now it's here. I'd like everyone who comes along to my workshops and classes to

have fun, learn a new skill and unleash their creativity.

We are launching our new Autumn cake decorating workshops at the Cornerstones Community Centre on Saturday 25th September.

Come along and try your hand at funky, contemporary cake decorating. Bring some friends or come alone, bring your son or daughter to our Halloween workshop or come to our Christmas cupcake and biscuit workshop where we'll create some alternative Christmas cakes and ice some Christmas biscuits to give away as presents or hang on your tree.

We look forward to seeing you.
